EQUIPOISE: Personal Training on Land
Educate. Exercise. Empower.
Equipoise means the balance of forces. When we have pain or tension or decreased range of motion, it can be that we are misaligned and unbalanced. My goal is to guide you in your work towards achieving better balance in your body so that your muscles don't have to work so hard to move you and hold you up.
Here's how I go about it:
Educate: using the principles of the Franklin Method, I help you understand how your body is designed to move, and through awareness and embodiment bring you closer to that design. You are the only one who knows exactly how your body feels, so we tap into this expertise to develop the best way for you to connect to the information and apply it to your movement experience.
Exercise: I'm not a "three more burpees!!" kind of a trainer. Our bodies, thankfully, respond to what we ask of them and get very good at what we practice. This can be both a blessing and a curse however, as practicing slouching in front of a computer, for example, is the exercise many of us practice most of the day. The exercises I will lead you through are designed to mobilize and train your fascia, practice better alignment, and strengthen muscles to support a better balance of forces. Here I look to movement and mobilization experts Tom Myers, Katy Bowman and Jill Miller, in addition to the work of Eric Franklin. They are doing great work in the areas of myofascial meridians, biomechanics, mobilization and dynamic alignment respectively. What I bring to your experience is the synthesis of my studies under each of them, and my ability to apply the principles to your unique situation.
Empower: You are your own best expert and advocate. My role is to introduce some concepts and exercises, give you some tips and tools (and toys!), guide you through as many practices as you need to feel comfortable with the strategy, and then send you out to take this into your favorite movement practices.
Jill Miller's TuneUp Fitness Balls can be found here.
I look forward to working with you.
Land training appointments are available Monday through Friday 10-5.
Cost is $95 per hour.
